TACT Patron Lorraine Pascale endorses new book about fostering

Author: TACT Communications

Lorraine Pascale – celebrity chef, author and former foster child, has penned a foreword for a new book that aims to demystify the experience of fostering for potential new foster carers.

Welcome to Fostering – A Guide to Becoming and Being a Foster Carer combines advice from foster carers and professionals with the real-life experiences of foster children. The book explains the fostering process step by step and will answer questions such as: ‘What are the challenges and rewards? Is fostering really for me?’

Lorraine Pascale said:” I am thrilled that this book, with real-life accounts by foster carers and young people in care, and lots of great expert advice has been produced. What I am most pleased about is how positive it is, and how it reflects the hopes and aspirations of so many children in foster care and their foster carers. It also highlights what I know, from my own life to be true, that good fostering can build brighter, happier futures for children and young people.”

Welcome to Fostering has been co- edited by Andy Elvin, CEO of fostering and adoption charity TACT (The Adolescent and Children’s Trust) and Martin Barrow, formerly news editor of the Times and a foster carer himself.  It is being published to coincide with Foster Care Fortnight which commences on Monday, 8 May.

Lorraine said:”Far too often, media coverage about children in care focus on the negative. I know from my own experience, and through being Patron of TACT and the DfE Fostering Ambassador, that positive stories of children in foster care are more common, but rarely reported.

So please enjoy this book. I hope it will make you think about what you might have to offer to children and young people in need of safe and stable homes. Fostering is so transformative for both the child and adult”.

 Notes to editors:

Foster Care Fortnight is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness raising campaign, delivered by leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network. Established for almost 20 years, the campaign showcases the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers. It also supports fostering services to highlight the need for more foster carers. Thousands of new foster families are needed every year to care for children, with the greatest need being for foster carers for older children, sibling groups, disabled children and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
