Looked after children tell us what they want from their foster carers

TACT Fostering in Scotland believes that children's assertion that fostering is 'the most important job in the world' is a powerful one and well worth airing. Foster carers for TACT West Midlands call for more people to consider fostering
Elisa Roberts, one of TACT's foster carers in the region who participated to the radio campaign explains: “I felt honoured taking part. I think one of the reasons I participated is because a lot of people are not aware of how much foster carers are needed. Since I’ve been a foster carer, it touched me and I realised how important it is to foster. It’s about being aware that you can foster care. And it’s more to do with just getting the word out there.”

"They [my foster carers] make sure I am happy. If I want to talk about anything they listen and help… I wish I could have come to foster care earlier." Courtney, TACT young person
"The reward for me is to see a child flourish and blossom in my care. It is a thrilling achievement, not only for me but for the child and everyone involved and to be seen to do the professional job that you were trained for. Fostering has done more for me than any nine-to-five job could have ever done." Jenny, TACT foster carer in South London
"I was really scared before I was fostered. […] Then, I became a TACT foster child and I really like where I am living because they [my foster carers] help me with lots of different things and they take me on holidays when they don’t have to." Nicola, TACT young person, wrote this whilst at the Abergavenny Junior Rugby club festival, 2-3 May 2009
