Children & young people
Once a person is approved as a TACT foster carer, we take all care to appropriately match you and your family with the children or young people who will best thrive in your household. We look at the individual needs of the children and young people as well as the foster carer's skills, experience and background.
There is no ‘typical’ child or young person that we place, each one of them is unique and has their own situation and life story. Many of the children who need foster care come from families who have faced extreme hardship and difficulties in their lives. The children are of all ages and may be from minority ethnic populations, some have a range of special needs and display challenging behaviour and some are in sibling groups which would need to stay together when possible. We also have carers who look after a parent and their child. These are usually young mothers in care with newly born or very young children. Other carers may look after a children or young person affected with a learning/physical disability.
These children may have experienced physical, sexual or emotional abuse and neglect. Some have low self-esteem and some may display challenging or harmful behaviour. At TACT we know that fostering can help to give these children and young people back their confidence by providing a loving secure home and a nurturing environment. We will give you all the appropriate information you need about the children and young people in your care to support them to grow with hope and confidence.
