Fostering Services

What is fostering?

Fostering is a way of providing a safe and stable home and family life for children and young people who are unable to live with their birth family. Children and young people may not be able to live with their own parents or extended family for a variety of reasons. These could include ill-health, relationship problems, family breakdown or situations where a child or young person is at risk of significant harm.

What we offer

Our staff are all highly experienced and dedicated – some have been foster carers themselves. You’ll receive a high level of support from your allocated Supervising Social Worker as well as regular phone calls and visits, 24 hour, 7 days a week support, training and development, generous allowances. You will also be able to share your experience with other carer through our carers' support groups. We offer children and young people's support groups for the children of our carers too.

Requirements

If you have (a) spare bedroom(s), childcare experience, understanding, patience and a sense of humour and want to change a young person’s life, read on to find out more about what TACT can offer you.

National and local fostering events

As one of the UK's largest fostering charity, and a campaigning voice on behalf of children in care and their families, TACT participates in national events to raise awareness of TACT's work across the country. TACT local fostering offices run information events to find out more about becoming a foster carer with TACT throughout the year. They also participate in and/or put on local community events to raise awareness of TACT as the local fostering children's charity of choice. To find out more about your local TACT fostering office and any local fostering events currently running, go to the "Where we work" and "Events" section of the website.
