England
Since 1992, TACT has been committed to improving the status of foster care and improving the levels of support, training and finance that carers need in order to care for children who have been damaged by their earlier experiences. From a small office in South East London, TACT in England has grown over the past 16 years and now has offices in South (covering London and the South East including Kent) and East London, Bristol (covering the South West), Birmingham (covering the West Midlands), Kettering (covering the East Midlands), Liverpool (covering the North West including Lancashire) and very recently, a worker in Yorkshire. These offices manage a service which provides foster carer for more than 300 children at any time.
In addition to the fostering service, TACT in England employs a number of Children’s Resource Workers who work individually with children in placement and run training and support groups for both the children who are fostered and the birth children of the foster families. In some offices they also offer a supervised contact service for families separated from their children. TACT offices also have access to trainers and therapists who can be available to work with individual foster carers and children. For example, in one office, there is a link to a therapeutic play service which is available to work with families and children.
TACT continues to expand into new areas in England with the recent appointment of a number of home workers, mainly covering the Midland and North of England.
