Bruised Before Birth is a one-day conference to educate professionals, parents and carers about the complexities faced by a child with FAS/D. It explains ways to deal with their challenges to maximise potential in their day-to-day lives.

This is the first of a series of one-day conferences organised by TACT Foetally Affected Children's Service (FACS).

Date: 14 July 2010

Time: 9.30am registration for 10am start to 4pm

Venue: Cardiff University University Hall, Conference Centre, Birchwood Road, Penylan, Cardiff, CF23 5YB - Direction to the centre and map.

  • Dr Raja Mukherjee, Consultant Psychiatrist, Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust
  • Professor Peter Hepper, Head of School of Psychology, The Queens University of Belfast and Director of Fetal Behaviour Research Centre, Royal Maternity Hospital Belfast
  • Julie Gelo, BSHS/M, adoptive mother of 10 children diagnosed with FAS and related conditions. Executive Director for the Washington State affiliate to the National Organisation on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS Washington State) and co-founder of FASt Friends FASD Community Support Network U.S.
  • Kevin Williams, Chief Executive, The Adolescent and Children’s Trust (TACT)
  • Julia Brown, Parent and Chief Executive, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Trust (FASD Trust)

    Who should attend? The training seminar is designed for foster carers, adopters and those working within the field of drugs and alcohol; social workers and managers; youth workers; early years professionals; health and education professionals; children’s guardians, barristers and lawyers involved in care proceedings; adoption, fostering and kinship panels; and anyone else working in children’s services.

    Cost: Full price: £120 - Early booker price: £95 (if booked and paid before 2 June) - Concessions: £70 (for voluntary organisations, charities and students - Families/Carers: £20. Please note that you may qualify for discount (10% discount for groups of three or more from the same organisation; made at the same time of booking only)
